Frequently asked questions

Can I volunteer?2019-02-08T03:02:18+00:00

Papaflessas is made possible through the generosity of our volunteers. We offer several opportunities to assist the community we serve, including helping with our annual dinner dance and annual fundraiser. Email Dean Manasses or call (312) 671 7173 to learn more.

Where are tournaments held?2019-02-08T03:02:19+00:00

Local tournament are typically held in the surrounding Chicagoland area. Our teams have traveled to other Orthodox or Hellenic tournaments in Detroit, Michigan; Ontario, Canada; Clearwater, Florida; and Cleveland, Ohio.

My child hasn’t played basketball before, is that ok?2019-02-08T03:02:19+00:00

Totally! We know all kinds of athletes and we urge parents to look at the bigger picture when considering whether their child should join. Our goal is to have every child stay engaged. Physical achievement is not based on a scoreboard. Our athletes have fun, develop character, get good exercise, and nurture relationships. If we achieve these things, it is a win even if the scoreboard suggests otherwise.

What is the cost?2019-02-08T03:02:19+00:00

Papaflessas prides itself on providing low-cost options to give youth the opportunity to participate in this unique program. We ask only that participants purchase a jersey (about $30). Through various fundraisers and donations, most of the other costs associated with tournament play are covered. There may be travel and hotel costs if we travel to outside of Illinois, however.

What is the practice schedule?2019-02-08T03:02:19+00:00

While the exact schedule varies from team to team, expect that during tournament season, practices typically take place once during the school week.

How long is the season?2019-02-08T03:02:20+00:00

Tournament season typically begins at the end of February and runs through the beginning of June. Tournaments are most weekends in March and one weekend each in the months of April, May, and June.
