Is winning more important than friendship?
“My experience with Papaflessas has been nothing but positive. Everyone involved is generous and good-hearted and I have made lifelong friendships with parents and players.”
– Georgia Alexakos
We believe every player matters, no matter their experience or aptitude for the game. In fact, this is this beauty of basketball—teams where members cooperate, trust, and communicate with each other are by default stronger for it. Yes, drills are important. Honing skills is important. Showing up to practice and being present is paramount. But a Papaflessas team is distinguished by its emphasis on fun, friendship, and working together.
While Papaflessas boasts an impressive record, this was not always the case. Our mantra, which was developed by Co-Founder Demetri Manasses, has always been “chasing relationships, not championships.” We teach our young athletes that the friendships they make are more valuable than any trophy they take home. Playing in tournaments is above all an activity to enjoy with friends and family with the greatest reward being that they are part of something greater.
Regardless of the age of your child, expect that he or she will engage more deeply with the sport of basketball, their Hellenic heritage, and make new friends along the way. We encourage you to reach out to our coaches to learn more.
